The Challenge

Before adopting Kodiak Hub, MM Packaging relied heavily on Excel, Microsoft Dynamics 365, SharePoint, 3S ERP, and several other tools to manage supplier information and relationships, resulting in supplier data housed in multiple locations.

With the lack of a centralized, global solution, the company had no standardised approach to supplier management that connected all its facilities. The lack of standardisation could open the door to efficiency losses not only in supplier relations, but also in on-time, in-full delivery to customers.

Keeping supplier certificates, documents and data sheets up to date was especially challenging, since expiries were tracked manually across different plants and systems. This posed challenges when it came to tracking who should review documentation, and whether suppliers had provided the most recent information in time for audits.

While some supplier contracts were negotiated centrally from the HQ, production facilities were often negotiating their own contracts, which meant MM Packaging’s Procurement team lacked transparency regarding plants' procurement practices. Centrally, no supplier overview existed that could boost efficiency and aid risk management in situations where they might need to stop working with a supplier - for example in cases of supplier non-compliance (e.g. LkSG). MM Packaging's procurement managers at headquarters needed a tool for ensuring that the 53 plants were following best practices.

The Solution

After evaluating several other platforms, MM Packaging chose Kodiak Hub for its user experience and flexibility in meeting their specific requirements. The platform's customization options, especially in defining property fields and building questionnaires, were key factors in their decision.

They initially focused on implementing the supplier onboarding and supplier evaluation modules to streamline these processes, so that all their production plants and business units were using the same onboarding and evaluation process for suppliers. By allowing all production plants to have their suppliers fill out a single form from a centralized system, MM Packaging aimed to consolidate their supplier information, reduce duplicate work, and create more professional and transparent collaboration both internally and with suppliers.

In parallel, they have been implementing Smart Actions and workflows to request and collect supporting documentation for topics like compliance and sustainability, and to automate internal review steps. For example, Smart Actions help ensure the right stakeholders are notified and can review, comment on, approve or reject information as it comes in, making follow-ups more structured and reducing manual coordination.

in the end, speed gains in supplier onboarding and qualification, translate into more seamless and delivery of products and services to MM Packaging's customers.

The Result

Since adopting Kodiak Hub, MM Packaging has enjoyed significant improvements in operational efficiency, transparency and the ability to review supplier data and react more quickly to supply-chain changes. This centralised approach has allowed for better oversight of supplier data, contracts, and certificates. Procurement managers now find it much easier to follow purchasing activities across the production network and in business units.

Improved internal collaboration and streamlined processes have led to reduced manual and duplicate work. Automated requests to suppliers via the tool have opened up more time for strategic work, like building segments and strategies for specific material groups.

MM Packaging has also found that supplier performance evaluations has become significantly easier, faster, and clearer, since they now have a structured, centralized way to collect and review supplier information and performance inputs. In parallel, they have seen supplier evaluation quality improve as quality checks are conducted centrally and many of the manual tasks they previously had to coordinate across plants have been automated, making follow-ups more consistent and proactive.

The platform's flexibility and customisation capabilities have been particularly valuable, allowing the company to continuously find new uses for the tool. Regular monthly check-ins with Kodiak Hub’s support team have further enhanced the overall experience. MM Packaging continues to explore new ways to leverage Kodiak Hub’s features, with plans to integrate additional modules such as risk analysis in the future. The company’s successful implementation of Kodiak Hub highlights the platform's ability to adapt to complex, evolving business needs, making it an essential tool for managing supplier relationships in complex industries.
